“Locification”

The team, headed by Uri Yahalom, has developed the concept of an easy to use SDK/toolkit to ease the development of mobile apps that use location based services. The rest of the team consisted of (in no particular order) Jonathan Mor, Gitay Shafran, Vova Feldman, Vladimir Pavlenko, Oren Shtark and Roman Levin.

You can see videos of all the presentations on the newsgeekcoil.

I’d like to thank all the participants who came and supported the event. A very special note to all the mentors and judges who took from their own personal time to make this event as solid as it was. And last, but not least, to the Young Adults Center ( מרכז הצעירים) who voluntarily let us take over their facility from Wednesday to Friday.

See ya next time.

As you probably know already, the Haifa Startup Weekend event is just around the corner – literally! Next week we will all be meeting at the Young Adults Center – מרכז הצעירים חיפה for the 50+ hour-long event.

I can now formally announce our official guest from the USA. Clint Nelsen, Co-founder of Startup Weekend and now the founder of Startup Labs will be with us for the whole 3 days. This will be Clint’s second visit to SW Israel since his initial support in the kick-off of our first event that took place in December 2010. A great opportunity now presents itself to brush up on your English.

Now is also a good opportunity to recognize all of the support that we are getting from organizations based around Haifa. MATI Haifa – מתי חיפה, BizTec and the hiCenter are assisting us in getting the “word out to the masses” and its been a pleasure working with them on this event. We also are expecting a visit from Yona Yahav, Mayor of Haifa on Thursday as demonstrating the continued support that the Haifa Municipality has provided.

Currently there is a strong contingent coming from out technology sponsors Qualcomm and Microsoft. We are expecting APM&Co. to be adding expertise in the legal field. Keep an eye on this space as more details firm up.

Startup Weekends are 54-hour events where developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups!

Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable. On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds.

Beginning with open mic pitches on Wednesday, attendees are encouraged to bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Thursday and Friday teams design and develop business plans while constantly streamlining their startup vision. On Friday afternoon teams demo their prototypes, listen to judges’ feedback and in some cities, win prizes.

Startup Weekends are specifically designed for entrepreneurs interested in receiving feedback on an idea, looking for a co-founder, or who want to learn a new skill. We also welcome anyone looking to test the entrepreneurial waters. Startup Weekends are risk-free environments where everyone is expected to roll up their sleeves and dive into the exhilarating world of startups.
